Each year the South Carolina Association of School Librarians promotes reading lists appropriate for various grade levels. The middle level book list are called the SC Junior Book Award Nominees. The list each year is made up of 20 books, varying in genres that middle school students are encouraged to read.
At Dent, we encourage students to read at least three (3) of the SC Junior Book Award Nominee books and become part of the Dent Book Challenge Team. The students that have read at least 3 of the SCJBA books by the end of the first semester have the opportunity of voting for this year's winning book, be a member of our GoodReads group, of attending the SC Read-In at the state capital building in April, and participating in our district's "Book Challenge". For the Book Challenge, teams from each middle school compete by answering questions based on the book award nominee books.
Students that are interested in being part of the Dent Book Challenge Team should see Mr. Baker in the media center for more details.
